Amid China’s urban renewal, repurposing old factories into cultural parks is a key trend. Recently, an 11,000㎡ 1980s agricultural machinery factory in Chengdu was renovated into Shu Brocade Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Park, with Nippon Paint’s dual-core aerogel system powering the energy-saving exterior wall upgrade.
The project required balancing historical heritage preservation, modern functionality, and green energy-saving standards. Nippon Paint’s high-performance aerogel thermal insulation mid-coat was selected for exterior walls, paired with epoxy terrazzo flooring, delivering both aesthetics and performance.Boasting a thermal conductivity of <0.044W/(m·k), the aerogel mid-coat offers high reflectivity and radiation performance. At just 2mm thick, it achieves an additional thermal resistance of 0.2㎡·K/W—equivalent to 20mm rock wool or 20cm solid brick—while reducing building load and fall risks.
Compared to traditional insulation, it cuts 4-5 construction steps, shortens the schedule by ~2/3, and boosts efficiency by over 50%, ideal for urban renewal projects. The renovated park integrates Shu Brocade culture and industrial heritage, providing a safe, durable, and energy-efficient leisure space for the public.
