Sto Launches Aerogel Thin-Coat System for Sustainable Buildings

On December 12, 2025, at the Sino-German Sustainable Building Seminar (hosted by GECC, DGNB, and Tongji University CAUP) in Shanghai, Sto, a German building materials giant unveiled its new Aerogel Thin-Coat System, stealing the spotlight as a benchmark for green building material innovation.

The system, blending German engineering with China’s market needs, uses advanced aerogel as its core material. It features ultra-thin design, excellent thermal insulation, and eco-friendliness, which upgrades wall energy efficiency, cuts embodied carbon emissions, and supports full-lifecycle energy savings.

Mr. Zhuang Wei, Sto Greater China’s Marketing & Product Director, highlighted the system’s value at the event. Industry experts praised it for breaking the trade-off between design flexibility and energy efficiency, while real estate representatives noted its role in boosting green certification and living quality. Rolf Demmler, DGNB China Ambassador, confirmed the system meets DGNB standards in supply chain transparency and EPD compliance.Founded in 1835, Sto is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (since 1992) with 32 global factories and 50+ subsidiaries.

Its 2024 sales reached €1.612 billion. Moving forward, Sto China will focus on green building materials to support carbon neutrality.
