Chenzhou Outdoor Cabinet Pilot Test: AG-C Aerogel Coating Reduces Peak Surface Temperature by 12°C

In August 2020, a controlled pilot test was conducted in Chenzhou under ambient temperatures of 26-38°C peaking at 38°C, evaluating AG-C aerogel coating for outdoor cabinet thermal insulation performance against uncoated control units under identical environmental conditions.Outdoor telecommunications and electrical cabinets in southern China experience significant solar heat gain during summer months, causing internal temperatures to exceed safe operating thresholds and triggering high-temperature protection alarms that interrupt service continuity. Conventional cabinet cooling solutions rely on active air conditioning systems that consume significant energy and require ongoing maintenance. A passive thermal barrier solution capable of blocking solar heat gain without active energy consumption would directly reduce both operating costs and alarm frequency.AG-C aerogel coating was applied to outdoor cabinet exteriors, with uncoated units serving as controls for direct performance comparison under identical ambient and solar conditions. Temperature monitoring recorded results across multiple measurement points throughout the test period.The aerogel-coated cabinet achieved a maximum surface temperature reduction of 12°C at the cabinet top compared to the uncoated control, the highest heat gain location under direct sunlight exposure. Interior temperatures of the coated cabinet remained steadily within a safe 28-33°C range throughout the test period. By contrast, the uncoated control cabinet exceeded 35°C and triggered high-temperature alarms even in an unoccupied low-heat-load configuration. This pilot result directly demonstrates AG-C aerogel coating's effectiveness as a passive thermal barrier for outdoor cabinet overheating prevention, reducing alarm frequency and the operational disruption associated with high-temperature protection activations.
