Jiangsu Provincial Academy Underground Art Storage Retrofit: AG-C Aerogel Coating Solves Thermal, Fire and Moisture Control for 500sqm Artwork Environment

Completed in December 2022, this underground art storage warehouse energy retrofit in Jiangsu covers 500 square meters of interior walls, applying a specialized two-layer coating system designed for the unique environmental control requirements of underground cultural artifact storage facilities.Underground storage environments present combined challenges that standard building insulation systems are not designed to address simultaneously. Thermal insulation must maintain stable interior temperatures regardless of ground-coupled heat transfer from surrounding soil. Moisture control is critical to prevent condensation on wall surfaces that would damage stored artworks. Fire retardancy requirements for artwork storage facilities are strict, prohibiting materials that could contribute to fire spread or generate harmful combustion byproducts in proximity to irreplaceable cultural assets.The applied system combines a multi-functional primer with AG-C aerogel thermal insulation middle coat, specifically formulated for underground building wall applications where conventional above-ground coating systems lack sufficient performance in soil-contact thermal and moisture conditions. The aerogel middle coat provides the thermal resistance required to stabilize interior wall surface temperatures above the dew point, preventing condensation formation. Its inherent flame retardancy meets the fire safety requirements for artwork storage environments.On-site performance testing following project completion confirmed excellent thermal insulation, flame retardancy, and waterproof performance across all treated wall surfaces. Environmental monitoring verified stable temperature and humidity conditions within the storage space, meeting the strict artwork preservation standards required by the Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Chinese Painting. Client satisfaction was high, and the project has been validated as a reference case for AG-C aerogel coating application.
