North China Oil Depot Tank Thermal Retrofit: AG-C Aerogel Coating Achieves 9.6°C Interior Temperature Reduction

In July 2020, an oil depot in northern China completed a thermal insulation retrofit on a 1,280㎡ oil tank using AG-C aerogel insulating coating system, targeting reduction of heat ingress and stabilization of internal storage temperatures for critical petroleum product preservation.Oil storage tanks in northern China face significant solar heat gain during summer months, causing internal temperatures to rise and increasing product volatility, evaporation losses, and fire risk. Conventional tank insulation approaches require substantial thickness additions that complicate maintenance access and add structural load. The depot required a solution delivering measurable thermal performance improvement within minimal coating thickness to preserve operational accessibility and avoid structural modifications to existing tank infrastructure.AG-C aerogel insulating coating was applied across the 1,280㎡ tank surface, providing a continuous, low-profile thermal barrier that blocks solar heat gain through the tank shell without the thickness and weight penalties of conventional insulation systems. The coating's aerogel formulation achieves thermal resistance levels significantly exceeding conventional paint or thin-film coating alternatives while remaining compatible with standard tank surface preparation and application processes.Post-application monitoring recorded a 9.6°C drop in tank interior temperature under equivalent ambient conditions, directly reducing cooling energy consumption required to maintain product temperatures within specification. The temperature reduction also mitigates product volatility risks, cutting evaporation losses and associated safety and environmental compliance concerns. This verified field result validates AG-C aerogel coating's ability to deliver consistent thermal control for critical oil storage assets while aligning with industrial energy efficiency and carbon reduction objectives.
